ON THIS DAY | 10 | 1985 Rainbow Warrior sinks in explosion

On this day in 1985 French government agents set off a bomb on the Rainbow warrior, sinking the ship and killing a crew member. Two French agents were caught, tried and found guilty, but the French government put huge pressure on NZ to release them into French custody. Result? The agents both enjoyed brief stays on Pacific Islands and were released. Surprised they didn't give them a medal! BBC
