I heard an interview with Neil Finn where he mentioned the "Maori backbeat" as something influential in his music. I'm sure there are other Pacific influences as well, particularly rhythmic and drumming. I'll start listening for awhile and see if I can figure out anything. Always happy to listen to new and different stuff!
